Where a meal gift goes
From the receipt to the pot: how a gift in rupees becomes breakfast, lunch, and tea.

A gift marked for meals is entered in rupees against the kitchen campaign. It is not spent the same afternoon on something else. The cook’s list for the month is flour, rice, lentils, milk, oil, vegetables, and tea.
When the store is bought, the bill is kept. Residents eat from that store every day, including the trays that go to rooms. If prices jump, the next gift fills the gap instead of shrinking a plate.
Donors do not need to send food. Cash in Pakistani rupees is what the kitchen can turn into the next meal without waiting on a parcel.
